Live Show Test!

I did a live show the day of launch, using just the Mevo Start with its built in mics to see how it'd do!

How can you make it just do one setting? I want to zoom in and it just stay there but it goes back and forth
That’s odd. I don’t think I’ve experienced that. Sounds like a bug/problem. Maybe do a reset, or reach out to Logi/Mevo. Sorry!
Such an amazing breakdown and review of this - I am so accustomed to wading through many "advertorial" reviews but this was so to-the-point and informational - couldn't believe my luck that you tested the low light so well! (and using the main cam as a point of reference to see how dim you had it set, not to mention the real world test outside)
Glad it was helpful!
Can I record (no streaming) without being connected to WiFi or Ethernet?
Yes
Is there a boost for the Mevo Start? I record live bands and need the 10 hour like the Plus had.
Anyone have any experience with streaming softball games? Is the start good or do.i need the plus?
It’d be great for that, especially day games (lots of light). You could set up a camera at each base and switch from the stands!
I really want to record my kid's soccer game. How does that look
Quite good for that; you have the advantage of full sun. Watch my newest Mevo video on multicam. Perfect for that.
Would you show how you uploaded your graphics into the camera to produce the lower-thirds?
Stay tuned… new video on Mevo Start is right around the corner!!
Thank you for the review it is truly helpful
Very good and a good value
This is a great review - very comprehensive! Thank you. I notice the Mevo Start turns on captioning when I stream via Facebook Live. Any advice on how to turn this off.
Hm, sounds like a Facebook setting. I don’t have an answer for you, sorry.
I love it. Thanks for such a comprehensive overview and commentary. I think the smaller pocket friendly form factor is a plus even with tighter view and no 4K. Loved the low lighting, face tracking and outdoor test. You certainly know your stuff when it comes to the technical detail of the camera and the general use cases for most folks. Thank you !!
You are so welcome! I appreciate that. Be sure you're subscribed… I'm working on a new MEVO video for release around the end of November
Thank goodness that the technology slowly changes and gets better and better, easier and easier.
Be sure you're subscribed; I'm working on another video for Mevo, out in November
Hello, have you tried it with Vmix??
No, but I’m not sure how you could. Unless VMix can ingest an NDI feed?
Thanks for the video on the Mevo Start. It really help me clarify some of the features.
I would like more about how to use it in live presentations with mix media and live performances. Thanks again. Looking forward for your response . Oh , planning to get multiple cameras, for different angles an people . You might want to cover how to use that feature.
Also, I notice that it does zoom in and out to much . Can you cover how to avoid that.
Well again, thanks .
I will like to know more Features of the mevo start
After searching for a good review on the mevo start i have finally found it. Thank you very much for making this review
Me and a family member are looking at cameras and he was suggesting the Mevo start where as I was looking more at a GoPro. I dont see many videos here on YouTube though comparing the Mevo vs the GoPro. If you could would you do a comparison video of the two cameras/brands and what you recommend ? I know there's probably a GoPro Hero 10 coming later in the year but I'm looking more at either a Hero9 or Hero7.

I'm open to the idea of a Mevo but after your video and others I'm not sure if a Mevo is better than a GoPro.
There won’t be comparisons because they are very different cameras. One is a live streaming solution and one is an action camera.
Which one would be best for me to use to upload music (guitar)I just ordered the mevo plus today and have older videos under thejmillsband.
This one has better microphones and a built in audio input jack, so either way, the Start is best for audio.
Excellent review. Super thorough. This little device may be a little better than my current setup. I live stream weddings occasionally and will send a scheduled link to my couples from Youtube a few days prior. I was curious if there is a way to connect to a scheduled stream with the mevo start?
@@photojoseph Awesome. Thank you!
Yes, once logged into your YouTube channel on the Mevo app you’ll see all scheduled shows. You will have to schedule it from a computer though. If that doesn’t work (youtube recently made security changes that may block seeing your schedules shows), you can always steam to the RTMP address.
Mr. Joseph. You neglected to say this Meco Start is not an easy thing to get working, and you neglected to say that the Company has no phone number to get a hold of anyone for support. Fail!!!
@@photojoseph My apologies for being to quick to judge the Mevo. I finally got it working, and I'm happy with the quality.
@@photojoseph Its not about being ungrateful. I use a phone. Blackmagic takes calls, many do. It looked to me like it was going to be a plug & play. My Atem Mini Pro doesn't detect it. It doesn't work unless you launch the App on your cell. I wish they had a Windows PC App or drivers, what's taking them so long? I even have it plugged in via the Ethernet cable.
It's very easy to get working, and they have a website — who uses the phone? Please… far from a fail. Goodness. Try to be a little more grateful for the work of others, OK?
More videos on mevo start please. With the Pivo camera robot?
HI Quick question, can we connect the mevo start(or plus) to a wifi connection without utilizing the phone's LTE at all ?
yes, absolutely!
Please provide some tips for soccer parents
If you're live streaming a soccer game, you can't expect the Mevo to track the ball — it'd have no idea which human to track! You would just do a wide shot and if you wanted to, pinch and follow manually.
What camera did you use to record this video?
A combination of cameras, but this setup has two GH5, two G9 and occasionally an S Series. The two main views (front wide, front tight) are GH5.
Can i use the wireless ndi stream with an ndi decoder (birddog or newtek or whatever else)and lead the signal hdmi output to an atem?Could be very interesting....
Yep!
Great detailed review and much needed for armatures like me . . .
Thanks!
I would be using this for soccer games. Does it have the capability to follow the soccer ball?
eh, no… that would be WAY too fast, and too small, for it to follow. Sorry.
Is super amazing I like 👍
it is cool for sure!
Hello! 🦹🏻‍♀️ Question, what Camera are you using when recording this video?
Probably LUMIX GH5
The battery life is fantastic, what kind of card can be used if filming tutorials of say, 20 min duration? What size card should and could be useed?
PS, to my last message, and emphasising my "Luddite qualifications", does it enable you to create a separate file of any non-live recording you might make, connect it to a computer, and then download that file (as an Mp4?) for keeping, and/or then eventual uploading to Youtube or other service like Vimeo?
@@photojoseph Thanks for your reply...Cheers, Fred Jansohn
Yes. Once connected to the phone, tap “record only” in the live stream setup.
Hi, sorry for the last "test" but on "conventional" Google (cf Chrome) I often get an "error returned" message. I would be using the Mevo mainly for recording bass covers to songs and then subsequent uploading to Youtube. As I'm a "rusted-on" Luddite when it comes to tech matters, my naive question is does the little Mevo do that too?
test
What a professional review ...Mr Joseph.....!!!
our church just got a start camera....can we connect this mevo start to VMIX SOFTWARE????
What camera do you actually use for your general video-recordings in your studio?
If you get a USBC adapter that has ethernet and a USB, can you stream live while the device is charging and also connected to the ethernet? I’d love not to have to worry about WiFi or the battery life for long events
Great!
@@photojoseph I'll report back!
Give it a try… I don’t know if the off-the-shelf adapters will do the same thing, but it’s worth trying.
@@photojoseph Thanks! I was just hoping to not have to spend >$100 for the PoE adapter...I'd rather get a $30 adapter that does the same thing :)
They actually make that adapter, the Ethernet Power Adapter. And a bonus, if you have a PoE ethernet switch, it’ll get power from that so you only have to connect an ethernet cable. It’s pretty sweet.
Hello sir , Can I use the Mevo start with Rodecaster pro ? Thanks 🙏🏽
i hate it where u hve to pay for subscription after paying for the camera almost 400
The narrower field of view seems like an issue for my purposes. The Plus can definitely capture three people very well. Any chance the Start can do the same?
Great video. Very helpful. Thank you! Is it possible to use the Mevo Start to stream via Zoom?
Very helpful. Thank you!
That was one of the most well-thought-out, useful and informative reviews I've seen on a product. #subscribed.
Thanks for the video. I am looking to use this in an educational setting with simulation. We will be in a simulated hospital setting. Would this camera have the ability to have a wide shot of the room, with a close up shot in the corner of the screen of the bedside monitor all at once? This would allow the students to see the full simulation while being able to keep an eye on the monitor.
That sounds like way too much of a difference. Even a bedroom size room with a screen in the corner would be like 5% of the image. On a 1920 wide feed, you'd be looking at just under 100 pixels. That would NOT be readable, at all. If you need viewers to see a screen, set up a two camera shoot and either do a picture-in-picture or a simultaneous second stream.
Pls connect 2 Mevo same time
I use it for live streaming for about 3 months. See it live here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EFrCZFHdOQ . On the + side: kind of works, app crashes from time to time but overall it works. What i don't like is the price for multiple streaming on all platforms. It requires a 200$/year subscription. That's almost the price of the camera. i would also like the ability to use the sd card as a source for background sound. Just select a wave, mp3 file whatever instead of having to plug in a mp3 player or phone for music.
Hi Joseph, I had the first generation of Mevo, and I had always had connectivity issues all the time. Specially on low wi-fi signal. Please let me know if the new Mevo start has any better connectivity as far is the wi-fi goes.
How did you do split-screen when you were comparing the light effects, Mevo VS main camera?
Hi nice video and clear. We got mevo plus in the. Church, how I can add texts in the bottom like the name and phone number of the pastor, the service etc, like continuously passing while the pastor preach, or whole service. Thank you
great video. I've seen others and they are so BORING.
PhotoJoseph I tried using a ping image like you did but it’s not coming up in my photos when using the app. How did you make that image for your lower third
Thanks!
