Eye-Fi Connected
Eye-Fi cards are compatible with thousands of cameras, very likely including the one you already own. But, a variety of popular models from Canon, Nikon, Sony, and other well-known brands have integrated additional Eye-Fi technology to improve your overall experience.
Cameras with the Eye-Fi Connected logo signify an improved user experience and, in some cases, advanced features. Eye-Fi connected cameras can detect when an Eye-Fi card is being used and most of these cameras will stay powered on until the photo and video uploads are complete, have an on-screen icon signaling transfer activity and provide the ability to enable or disable Eye-Fi card WiFi via the camera menu. Some camera models will even identify which photos & videos have already been uploaded with an on-screen icon.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2013My husband purchased an iPad 4 for me for Christmas because he had read online about shooting from camera to iPad to view and edit photos. At the Apple store, the man sold him a $30 camera adapter so I could transfer the files. Once I got to my studio after the holiday I connected my camera to the iPad but was disappointed to see that it did not transfer photos as I took them, instead it acted as a USB reader and transferred files that were already on the memory card. This was a complete waste and not at all what I needed. So, I did some research and found out about the Eye-Fi card, and of course checked out all of the reviews for it. I purchased it, and received it yesterday. When I got into the studio today, I set it up, and although it took me a little while to figure out all of the settings so that it worked for exactly what I wanted (less than an hour) I have it up and running and it works amazingly! I do a few events throughout the year where clients can choose their photos on the spot, and it isn't reasonable to move my whole computer set up to my shooting area to shoot tethered to my PC, and it obviously doesn't make any sense to try to travel with it. Well this is a perfect solution. I have the Canon 1DS Mark III. I use a regular CF card to record all of my RAW files for transfer and editing on my PC once I'm back at my studio and use the Eye-Fi SD card to transfer small jpeg files directly to my iPad. The photos on my iPad are strictly for people to see their photos, and I won't be editing or saving these files, so I use the S jpeg so it transfers extremely quickly. In less than 3 seconds, files are ready to view. This helps to boost sales a lot, because a lot of people will order less at events if they are unsure how their photos turn out. It does take a little set up work on both the iPad and camera to get this all to work out this way, but like I said it doesn't take long.
One drawback I did see was that it seems as if my iPad looses the connection to the card, and then you have to go back into settings and wifi to reconnect. That is a little inconvenient, but I set it to automatically connect, and I am hoping this fixes the problem. One piece of advice though, if you plan on using this app with your camera and you may not take a photo for a few minutes, you may want to turn your sleep settings off on your camera. I did notice that the wifi disconnected after the camera went to sleep and it took a minute to reconnect.
All in all, it is an awesome product to shoot "tethered" with, and of course the fact that everything is wireless makes it so much easier! I definitely recommend the Eye-Fi!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2014I bought this card to transfer my pictures from my camera to my android device when I travel. I like to back up my pictures when I travel so I bought this card to transfer my pictures from my camera to my android. In the past I would take my laptop with me, with this card I could leave the laptop at home. I was concerned about battery drain on the camera with a Wi-Fi card, so I purchased the X2 Pro because you can turn off the Wi-Fi from the menu on the camera. I am planning to turn off the Wi-Fi and only turn it on to transfer the pictures from the day, when I am near a charger. The card does drain the battery faster when the Wi-Fi is turned on.
The card works great in the camera, it does take some time for the card to connect to the device after taking a picture but this may be my camera (Cannon ELPH 300) or my older android device. As I am planning to do a batch transfer once a day, I am okay with this.
Configuring the card was a challenge. The software does not always recognize the card. I had to exit the application and restart it several times before it would recognize the card. Once it was recognized, I could usually may one change to the configuration of the card and it would freeze up. I could not make any additional changes. If I browsed to the card from windows explorer, windows explorer would stop responding and eventually ask me to insert the card. I had to unplug the card from the computer, plug it in again and go through the process of trying to get the software to recognize the card. I tried the card in another computer with the same results. After trying all the suggestions on the eye-fi website, I contacted eye-fi customer support. My concern was that the card was defective. Customer support wanted to know why I was plugging the card into the computer and not just leaving it in the camera. When I explained that I was trying different configurations, after all it is supposed to be a configurable card, to determine the settings that worked best for me this is their response:
“I have seen an issue recently where some cards seem to only work properly when plugged in by way of the camera USB. I believe it is a power issue and we have been working to see what we can do to correct it.
In terms of avoiding this problem, definitely use the camera USB cable for plugging the card in. In terms of changing configurations, let us know what you are looking to do overall, and we can make the best recommended configuration for you!”
Now that I finally have the card configured, I am happy with the card. It does what it promises. Transfer speed is good, not fast, but good. Again, this may be my camera or my older android device.
If you’re not a technical person, or if you want plug and play, I don’t think this is the card for you. You might want to look at the Eye-fi Mobi. I have not used the Mobi, but it sounds like it is more plug and play.
